A land use by-law has went through second reading by Port Hawkesbury councillors.
Eastern District Planning Commission officials say the current by-law allows for an accessory building such as a garage to be 750-squared feet.
John Bain says the amendment means the secondary building could be 10 per cent of your lot size.
Bain tells The Hawk the change would be a benefit for bigger properties.
“I think the larger properties- there’s more of a likelihood that they might need an accessory building that’s bigger.”
Bain says they also added an amendment for the garage to be consistent in architectural style with the main building.
Residents will have two weeks to appeal the amendment starting Wednesday.
