A man from the Quad Counties who had an extended political career will be laid to rest Friday.
Gerald “Gerry” Doucet passed away in Halifax Nov. 23; he was 80.
Doucet, who was born in Grand Etang, represented the provincial riding of Richmond from 1963-1974.
He became the first Acadian cabinet minister with a specific portfolio in the history of the province when he was named Minister of Education.
Doucet practiced law in the 1960s, 1970 and 1980s; he founded 1410 CIGO, which eventually became 101.5 The Hawk, in 1975.
His memorial service takes place at St. Joseph’s Church in St. Joseph du Moine at 10:30 a.m.
