Officials with the Strait Regional School Board have passed their 2017-2018 budget.
They approved the financial plan at December’s regular board meeting Wednesday night.
Chris Grover, the board’s director of finance, says Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy and East Antigonish Education Centre/Academy are both receiving $50,000 as a result of Priority School grants.
After the meeting, Grover said new positions have been created from provincial council help.
“We received from the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions additional class size in junior/senior high of four positions.”
Grover said the total budget was $81,002,811, more than $2 million higher than the previous year.
He said that isn’t a concern; he’s pleased with the numbers.
“No concern from my perspective,” he said. “To Jamie’s (Samson) point, it was kind of a ‘good news budget’ for us this school year for sure.”
Grover said they had investment in a number of different areas in their latest budget.
