The warden of Inverness Co says they’re moving forward with their accessibility committee.
Betty Ann MacQuarrie says they approved a new member at their regular municipal council meeting earlier this week.
She says they’ve been advertising for people to join the committee- they now have five members; three members of council and two community members.
MacQuarrie says it’s important to get things moving now.
“Many other municipalities are working in the same direction- to have the buildings accessible,” she says. “It’s going to be mandatory to have them done- it’s best to do it now when you can get a little bit of funding assistance.”
MacQuarrie says potential funding could come from both federal and provincial officials.
She says there’s lots of buildings that are accessible, but it’s surprising to see how many buildings aren’t.
