Councillors in the Town of Antigonish have updated one of their bylaws regarding lodging residences.
The changes deal with the classification of rental buildings in the town; they were approved at Monday night’s regular town council meeting.

Boucher said safety of student renters is their primary concern.
“Students are actually our citizens for eight months of the year- safety and their housing is very important to us,” she said. “Second, is maintaining integrity of neighbourhoods- especially in our one zone where it’s very low density, the number of people actually in the house.”
Boucher said additional resources will have to be put in place to make sure town officials can monitor what is happening.
