The Province’s Education Minister says government officials will move ahead with a recommendation to eliminate all of the province’s seven English language….regional school boards.
Zach Churchill says the move is part of changing the province’s education “for the better” and improving student success.
The boards will be replaced by a single provincial advisory council.
Churchill says it will hopefully make things more efficient…
“Operationally I think that will give us a better opportunity to do that, to adapt more quickly and be more responsive and be more coherent and concise in terms in lines of accountability within the system. I believe this will have a positive impact over time.”
Churchill says the move will require a change of the education act…and the speaker of the Legislature requires thirty days’ notice before sitting.
He says he’s not sure when the House could be called back.
