The Town of Antigonish is being hit with heavy flooding.
Laurie Boucher, Mayor, says they’ve never had flooding like this at this time of year before.
She says a quick thaw followed by a flash freeze followed by a lot of rain is responsible.
Boucher tells The Hawk flooding is extensive.
“It’s over the bank and coming back into the Five to a Dollar parking lot again,” she says. “Columbus Field is flooded and behind the mall is flooded; down at the end of St. Andrews St.- under the bridge is flooding as well.”
Boucher says the good news is the water is starting to slow down Brierly Brook River.
She says the town-owned parking lot behind Five to a Dollar and Church St.- between Main St. and St. Ninian St., will remain closed until the water starts to recede.
Town officials say you can use metered parking in other areas for free in the meantime.
Flood water has run over into the parking lot of the CBI Health Centre on Church St.; the health centre is closed as a result.
