The Inverness Co. council chambers were filled to capacity with residents who wanted to hear more about a rumoured West Mabou golf course.
In a presentation to councillors at February’s regular municipal meeting Monday afternoon, Nadine Hunt with the West Mabou Beach Committee said they support the idea of a golf course in the area, they just don’t want it on provincial park land.
A couple of councillors voiced their full support for the initiative of group members.
After the meeting, Betty Ann MacQuarrie, the warden of Inverness Co., told The Hawk councillors have heard a variety of reactions so far.
“My standpoint is from the position of warden and what we hear from all the people of Inverness Co., all of the people in my district (is) not everybody feels the same way.”
MacQuarrie said it’s not municipal councillors’ decision, but they’d be happy to hear from all sides.
She said they need to be ready for anything.
“Rather than being so fearful of what the Department of Natural Resources or the Department of Environment could decide, you know ‘We will give them a little section’, well, we have to be prepared for that too.”
MacQuarrie said she hopes for a win-win situation.
