The warden of Richmond Co. says they have an important question about money allocated in the recent provincial budget for internet access.
Brian Marchand says it’s not clear whether providing the service to 95 per cent of the province means 95 per cent of the geography or the population.
He says there are some large areas where there are no people.
After Monday night’s municipal council meeting, Marchand told The Hawk they’ll be paying attention to hear further details.
“They’re announcing this funding program so the rules will shortly come out and they’ll be unveiling exactly how you can apply for that money,” he said. “We’ll watch that as those policies and procedures come out for applying for that money.”
Marchand said Seaside reps are working hard to try to improve infrastructure in the Dundee and Fourchu areas, and that’s expected to be completed soon.
He said cell service is of equal or more importance compared to internet.
