Five teams are taking part at the Antigonish Arena.
The host Bulldogs open the tournament against the Truro Bearcats at 11 a.m.; they play their second game against the Halifax Hawks at 5 p.m.
Round-robin action resumes Saturday; the top two teams advance to the championship game Sunday morning.
The Cape Breton West Islanders open play at the 2018 Female Midget AA hockey provincials in St. Margaret’s Bay.
The Islanders open the five-team tournament against the Metro East Inferno at 3 p.m., then meet the Colchester Co. Cyclones at 7 p.m.

The Islanders (0-1-1), who are among seven teams at the provincial tournament, lost their first game against the Acadia Axemen 5-1 Thursday afternoon, then tied Cape Breton Co. 3-3 in their second game.
Cape Breton West plays their two final preliminary round games Friday- they face the Chebucto Atlantics at 10 a.m. and the Yarmouth Mariners at 4 p.m.
The top four teams advance to the semi-finals Sunday morning; the championship game is Sunday afternoon.
The Mabou-Port Hood Atom B Islanders are in the 2018 Day of Champions in Truro.
The Islanders, who beat Pictou Co. to win the North Conference championship March 18, play the Bedford Blues in a one-game showdown for the Atom B provincial title.
Game time is 11 a.m.
Antigonish’s Blade Mann-Dixon and the Halifax Mooseheads open their second-round Quebec Major Junior Hockey League playoff series against the Charlottetown Islanders on home ice.
The Mooseheads (43-18-7), who finished the regular season as the fourth seed in the 18-team league with 93 points, beat the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in five games in the first round; the Islanders (37-24-7), who were ninth with 81 points, needed seven games to get past the Quebec Remparts in the opening round.
Halifax won seven of the nine regular season games between the teams.
Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax is 7 p.m.
The best-of-seven quarter-final series remains in Halifax for game two Saturday night.
