Officials at a nursing home in the Quad Counties say they’ve made the difficult decision to cut staff to address their projected deficit.
R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home officials in Antigonish say they had a $400,000 deficit at the end of their most recent fiscal year, which was March 31.
They say they’ve had to reduce staffing hours, leave administrative vacancies unfilled and combine positions to address the significant shortfall.
Nursing home reps say cuts by officials from the provincial government have reduced their budget by $140,000 since 2015.
They say night shift staffing ratios will not be impacted, and registered nurses and licensed practical nurses won’t be affected.
