Municipal officials in Inverness Co. have received a cheque for over $400,000 from Nova Scotia Health Authority officials that was a long time coming, but it came with a hit.
Betty Ann MacQuarrie, Warden, says the arrears of the fire and sewer rates are for both hospitals in the county.
MacQuarrie tells The Hawk they lost out on a sizeable portion of that money due to the interest on it.
“The request that came forward that had to be voted on and approved by council was to write off the interest that has accumulated down through the years that the bill hasn’t been paid by the Nova Scotia Health Authority.”
MacQuarrie says the cheque was initially in the $500,000 range, but they had to write off over $130,000 and the final amount of funds received by municipal officials totals about $420,000.
