The Northern Selects open play at the 2018 Esso Cup in Bridgewater.
The Selects, who won the female midget AAA Atlantic title in Newfoundland April 1, are among six teams competing for the national female midget hockey championship.
They play their first game against Metro, the host team, at 7 p.m.
The Selects’ second game is against Brampton (Ont.) Monday afternoon.
The top four teams advance to the semi-finals Friday; the championship and bronze-medal games are Saturday.
River Denys’ Colten Ellis and Team Canada continue preliminary round play at the 2018 IIHF U18 World Hockey Championship in Russia.
Canada (2-0-0) is facing Switzerland (0-2-0).
Ellis made 31 saves in Canada’s tournament opener, a 6-4 win against the US Thursday; they beat Belarus in their second game Friday.
Canada wraps up the preliminary round against Sweden Tuesday; the quarterfinals are Thursday.
