Councillors in Richmond Co. have defeated a motion to accept town counterparts in Antigonish to join the Eastern District Planning Commission- at least, for now.
Gilbert Boucher, councillor, voiced concerned their rates wouldn’t be going down if the addition was approved and that they should reconsider their status with the group.
After Monday night’s county council meeting, Brian Marchand, the county’s warden, told The Hawk they’ll review things further.
“The questions were concerning I guess where we stand on being in the commission,” he said. “I understand councillor Boucher’s comments on that, so those numbers should be given to all council and we’ll discuss that.”
Boucher said because Richmond Co. is already planned for, they should consider hiring planners in-house just to enforce those plans.
Marchand said they’ll have further discussion Tuesday and they’ll go from there.
He said reps with all municipal units within the EDPC have to approve additions.
