A student from the Quad Counties has earned a medal at a national event.
Ozan Ürkmez won bronze at the Canada-wide science fair at Carleton University in Ottawa this past weekend; there were also projects from Mexico, Taiwan and Thailand.
The grade 11 student from Dr. John Hugh Gillis High in Antigonish won a special award for his project, Delve Into Dimensions, that allows him to attend a workshop for young physicists in Waterloo.
Dr. J.H. Gillis students, Lyza Ellis and Taylor Smith, and Chedabucto Education Centre/Guysborough Academy student Caroline MacKeen also represented the Strait Regional Centre for Education at the event that featured roughly 430 students from all provinces and territories in the country.
