Antigonish’s mayor says town officials are close to formally joining the Eastern District Planning Commission.
Laurie Boucher says they asked their staff members to investigate the possibility of joining the commission between eight and ten months ago.
After Monday night’s regular town council meeting, Boucher said it’s almost a done deal.
“We’d be very surprised if it doesn’t come through; it’s 99.9 per cent there,” she said. “We’re looking forward to the level of service that they’re going to be able to provide for our community.”
Boucher said the transition would take place July 2.
She said a pair of town positions, their fire inspector and director of planning, would be eliminated as a result of the move.
