The Cape Breton West Islander Major Midgets made their mark during the Martime Junior A Hockey Draft on Saturday.
Two Islanders were selected in the first round…Jack Morris was chosen 2nd overall by the St. Stephen Aces and the Pictou County Weeks Crushers picked up Sean Stewart with the 4th pick. Chase Ellis was also picked up by the Crushers.
Star goalie Ewan MacDonald went to Edmundston in Round 3.
Del Welton had some movement in the second round of the Territorial picks as he went to Truro
The Valley Wildcats named Darren Waterman in round 4 and Sam Grant in the 6th. Also in the 6th Matthew Raike went to the South Shore Lumberjacks…he’ll be joined by team mate Ben MacLellan who was picked in the 7th.
Matthew Ellis was chosen by Amherst in the 5th Round.
Meanwhile Matthew Helpard of Mulgrave who has played with Newbridge Academy the past couple of years went to Yarmouth in the 8th.
