The mayor of the Town of Antigonish says town officials plan to vote on their operating budget and tax rates later this week.
The town’s previous fiscal year ended Mar. 31; town councillors have already approved their 2018-19 capital budget.
Last month, Laurie Boucher, the town’s mayor, said she would be disappointed if they weren’t in a position to vote on their operating budget by this month’s regular town council meeting.
After Monday night’s meeting, Boucher said their corporate services manager position has been vacant, and that’s partly responsible for the delay.
“The management of accounting has done a great job in the last four or five weeks filling that role,” she said. “He’s gone through an audit at the same time and got the budget in place- the first time he’s done it for the town, so he’s done a fantastic job; just a little bit behind, not that he’s behind, just the whole thing is a little bit behind.”
Boucher said they expect to conduct their budget vote during a special council meeting Thursday night.
