Two former members of the X-Men football team charged following a sexual assault investigation at StFX are scheduled to return to court in September.
Jonah Williams, 20, of Halifax has been charged with three counts of sexual assault against two different women; Tyler Ball, 19, of Truro faces a single count of sexual assault.
Both elected Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge-and-jury trials- Williams in relation to one of his alleged incidents- during an election-and-plea hearing in February; their preliminary inquiries, which will determine if there’s enough evidence to send their cases to trial, opened with two days in Antigonish Provincial Court June 11-12.
Those hearings resumed Friday; they’re expected to continue Sept. 10-11.
Williams has pleaded not guilty to his two other alleged incidents, and is scheduled to stand trial on those matters Dec. 10-11.
The pair played defensive back for StFX- Williams was in the team’s starting line-up, Ball was not.
Neither Williams nor Ball are still with the X-Men football program.
RCMP say an 18-year-old told them she was sexually assaulted on campus in November; that led a 19-year-old to come forward and report two separate cases of sexual assault on campus.
