A 41-year-old man charged with two counts of attempted murder after he allegedly tried to stab a woman and three-year-old child in Antigonish has made his first court appearance in the case.
RCMP say officers were called to a home on Brookland St. in the town at roughly 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
They say the woman called 911 from a neighbour’s home; the child was with her, and the man was still inside the other home.
Police say the woman and child, who were taken to hospital by paramedics, are expected to recover from their injuries.
They say officers found the man outside the home shortly after; he was arrested without incident.
The Antigonish man was sent for a 30-day mental health assessment when he appeared in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Thursday; he’s scheduled to return to court Aug. 24.
