Antigonish County’s warden says erosion remains a concern in some parts of the municipality.
Bill MacFarlane, the municipal councillor for District 10, said a bridge and some houses were affected by ongoing erosion on the bank of the West River on the Sunrise Trail in Greenwold at April’s municipal council meeting.
After Tuesday’s regular meeting, Warden Owen McCarron said it’s still a significant issue.
“The back property of one of the residence there probably lost over six-seven feet over the last couple of years,” he says. “So it is a concern, erosion is happening everywhere, it’s not just on the coast- there’s lots of river erosion happening.”
McCarron said municipal officials have contacted Antigonish MLA Randy Delorey for some direction.
He said they were told to contact environment department reps, so they’ll be in touch with them, and transportation department officials as well.
