A young boy with autism was found dead in the water in Cape Breton.
Cape Breton police got a call that a boy with autism had escaped through a kitchen window in New Waterford on Saturday afternoon, according to a news release.
Shortly after 2 p.m., crews found the body of the boy in the water near a cliff.
The police dive unit, as well as EHS and firefighters were called to the scene.
But the boy did not survive.
Deputy Fire Chief Gerald Coady from the New Waterford Fire Department told CBC on Saturday that the boy looked to be about 6 years old.
“Our condolences go out to the family during this difficult time,” wrote police spokesperson Jodie Wilson.
The investigation continues.
