CIGO began as 1410 AM and converted to 101.5 FM on April 3, 2000. We can be heard from New Glasgow to Sydney Forks, Nova Scotia, but our main focus is the Quad Counties (Inverness, Richmond, Antigonish and Guysborough
Counties) 24 hours a day.

The Hawk has received numerous recognition awards for our positive contribution to the community. In 2008 we awarded the ECMA for Small Market Radio Station of the Year. As the only daily source for local news, weather, sports and information, The Hawk has become an integral part of the Quad Counties.

We are a progressive station leading the way with digital technology including the following:

  • The first radio station east of Ontario to install the Burli newsroom capture and editing software.
  • The Hawk's traffic and accounting departments use the world wide leading Wick Broadcasting Solution(CBSI) software. This program provides us with versatility and complete control of how commercials are scheduled throughout the day.
  • The Hawk uses the Media Touch Digital Audio Mpeg 2 Format for on-air and production aspects of the operation. Media Touch is based in Winnipeg.
  • RCS music scheduling system

The Strait of Canso situated between Cape Breton Island and Mainland Nova Scotia has become one of our strongest assets as North America's deepest ice free ports. The economy is supported by NewPage Corporation (coated and supercalendered paper mill), NuStar (petroleum transshipment facility), Clearwater (processing plant), Nova Scotia Power Generating Station, Exxon-Mobil Energy Incorporated, Ocean Nutrition Canada (nutritional supplements), Federal Gypsum (producing wallboard), Martin Marietta Materials Limited (Cape Porcupine), Nova Scotia Community College - Strait Area Campus featuring the Nautical Institute, the Superport Corporation, Call Centres, Mulgrave Machine Works, and a strong small business community.  The Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre has been named one of the worlds top 10 sports stadiums.  Additionally Antigonish is strengthened by world leading St.F.X. University highlighted by the Charles Keating Millennium Center, St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Festival Antigonish and many institutions, which help to secure the community's economic future.
