Former Antigonish bank employee sentenced

A former bank worker at the Antigonish branch of the Royal Bank has been sentenced following a guilty plea on a charge of making a false document.

Sharon Louise Tonet, 45, of Sydney was given a conditional sentence of two years less a day; she was sentenced to 18 months house arrest, followed by six months of curfew, and two years probation.

Tonet was also ordered to pay the branch back $517,000, and told not to have any contact with current or former bank employees.

She pleaded guilty to making a false document during a court appearance in May; charges of theft over $5,000 and defrauding the bank of over $5,000 were withdrawn during her sentencing hearing in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday.

Tonet worked at the bank from 1994 to 2007.
