The branch manager of the Royal Bank in Antigonish says he's satisfied with the outcome of a court case involving a former employee.

45-year-old Sharon Louise Tonet of Sydney was accused of stealing more than half-a-million dollars from the branch.

She pleaded guilty to making a false document during a court appearance in May; charges of theft over $5,000 and defrauding the bank of over $5,000 were withdrawn during her sentencing hearing in Antigonish Provincial Court Wednesday.

Tonet worked at the bank from 1994 to 2007.

Branch Manager Rob Dawe tells The Hawk he can't say if he would have liked to see jail time.

"It’s tough to comment on that because the courts have a way of working," he says.

"Justice is what it is and we are just pleased that Miss Tonet is accepting responsibility for her actions, that’s the bottom line with us."

Dawe says he's pleased all of the bank's current employees have been cleared of any criminal wrong doing.

He says it's a big weight of their shoulders.

"Certainly was, but we were very confident going in that they were fine but we just had to eliminate that possibility."

Tonet was sentenced to house arrest, followed by a curfew and probation Wednesday; she was also ordered to pay back the bank $514,000.
