Fundraising events have come to a standstill, and training has kicked into high gear for a local teacher biking across Canada.

Suzanne Delaney, the vice principal at St. Andrew's Consolidated School, is biking across the country in the Sears National Kids Cancer Ride.

Delaney tells The Hawk she's getting excited.

"I'm looking forward to the ride- we have conference calls every Thursday, and I'm getting a chance to talk to the other riders," she says. "We have finally been divided into our teams, so we got a chance to talk to our team captain- I think everything is ready to go."

So far, Delaney has raised a total of $66,200 that will go to the IWK, but she says would like to do better.

"I would love to be able to reach $70,000- there are no other national riders that have reached $70,000 yet," she says. "In my mind, they are all finished- they are all focused on their training."

Delaney says she's trying to get the whole province involved, in an attempt to reach that $70,000 mark.

The ride starts in Vancouver Sept. 9; it ends in Halifax Sept. 23.
