SPCA reminding people to keep pets safe in hot temperatures

As temperatures creep higher and higher in the province the SPCA is asking pet owners to take extra care of their furry friends.

The SPCA has already responded to numerous calls about animals being left alone inside cars or outside without water or shade.

SPCA Executive Director Kristin Williams tells The Hawk there are simple ways to keep pets safe.

"We are asking care givers to leave their animals at home and inside if possible where they may have access to air conditioning and fans," she says. "We also want to make sure they are hydrated, so take precautions by making sure they have free access to water and cool conditions."

One animal nearly died Thursday morning when it was found inside a car with a temperature of 53 degrees Celsius.
