StFX is hosting the Atlantic Youth Entrepreneurship Summit this weekend.

150 participants will be in Antigonish to discuss strategies on how to create an innovation culture of entrepreneurship in the region.

Melissa MacMaster with the StFX Enterprise Development Centre tells The Hawk the goal is to find ways to keep young people from moving away.

"The purpose of the summit this weekend is to bring together a large number of youth entrepreneurs, emerging leaders and change makers from across Atlantic Canada to discuss issues around youth out-migration."

She says youth out-migration is an important issue, because a lot of young people are leaving the region for work.

"We want them to say yes to Atlantic Canada, and to show them that they can stay in their home town or in their rural and coastal community and that they can start a business and be actively involved in their community as a leader to make it more engaging for youth."

MacMaster says they'll also try to come up with ideas to make entrepreneurship more accessible to youth.

Premier Darrell Dexter will officially open the event Saturday morning; Central Nova MP Peter MacKay will speak Sunday afternoon.
