Officials with the Antigonish Chamber of Commerce have presented their 2011 Small Business Week awards.

The awards were handed out in St. Andrews Thursday.

John Chisholm was the winner of the Ian Spencer Excellence in Business award.

He started Riverside International Speedway in 1969; he sold it in the 1980s, then bought it back in 2006.

Chisholm told The Hawk he's honoured.

"It means a lot, especially if you're not expecting it," he said. "We just do things- you don't things for an award."

Chisholm said he's happy to help generate economic spinoff in the area.

"I hear it from all the local motels, the restaurants, the pizza shops," he said. "They're all sold out on race weekend, which is great."

Dreamcatcher's Deli and Treats owner Roseanne MacEachern won the Emerging Business Award, Bernadette Pace with Highland Hearing Clinic won the Outstanding Customer Service award, and Justamere Cafe and Bistro owner Eileen Curry won the Young Entrepreneur award.

Strait Area Chamber of Commerce officials presented their Small Business Week awards at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Wednesday.
