Strait Regional School Board officials are expecting to get information on funding for the next year this month.

The board was given an overview of the likely situation facing them last week.

Superintendent Jack Beaton says they are expecting a funding reduction of 3 per cent and an additional 2 per cent for inflationary costs.

Beaton tells The Hawk the cuts will be hard to absorb this year.

"We are really anxious to get a hold of the actual number," he says. "We know whatever it will be, it is going to be significant and that it is going to have quite an impact on how we deliver programs and services in the schools."

Beaton says officials were able to keep cuts out of the classroom last year.

He says it will be difficult to do the same this year.
