Trial for Antigonish murder suspect set to get underway

A Dartmouth man charged with a New Year's murder in Antigonish is set to start his trial Tuesday.

Robert Harris Lamb, 22, faces a second-degree murder charge in relation to the Jan. 2010 death of Jonathan Beaton, 25; Beaton died in hospital following a brawl outside a College St. house party.

Lamb was committed to stand trial after a preliminary inquiry in Jan. 2011; he has elected trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court by judge and jury.

The trial is being held in Pictou instead of Antigonish, because of concerns regarding courthouse conditions in Antigonish.

Jury selection is expected to take place Tuesday.
