MacKay announces $506,000 for new community centre in Lochaber Lake

Central Nova MP Peter MacKay has announced over half-a-million-dollars in funding for a national level rowing facility on Lochaber Lake in Antigonish Co.

MacKay announced $506,000 for the Lochaber Community Development Association at an event Friday.

The funds will go towards the creation of a community centre and rowing facility with a two-kilometre, six-lane course.

The Lochaber Centre will replace the aging Sylvan Hall and will include meeting rooms, office space, storage space and a medal presentation area.

The association will also build a dock at the facility.

The Municipality of the County of Antigonish has already invested $75,000 towards the project, with the community raising $350,000.

The Regional University Rowing Regatta was hosted on the Lake in early October.

Association members are currently in the process of creating a proposal to host Rowing Canada's 2014 Canadian Masters Championships.
