Local sports preview (Friday)

The province's two Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams open a home-and-home series in the first-ever Hurley Cup.

St. Andrews' Declan Smith and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles host Antigonish's Brad Kennedy and Blade Mann-Dixon and the Halifax Mooseheads in the first half of the two-game total goal series between the provincial rivals.

The season series is tied 2-2.

Puck drop at Centre 200 in Sydney is 7 p.m.

The teams finish off the home-and-home series in Halifax Saturday afternoon, when the first-ever Hurley Cup winner will be crowned.

In the Antigonish Rural League, it's a rare Friday night of action at the Antigonish Arena.

The Outlaws face Pleasantdale in the early game at 7pm, followed by Heatherton taking on St Croix at 8:45pm.

A skills competition will take place between the games.
