Suspect arrested by ICE members has hearing adjourned

A man from Port Hawkesbury charged by members of the RCMP's provincial Internet Child Exploitation Unit is scheduled to return to court in February.

Police say they arrested Malcolm Smith in August.

Smith, 28, is accused of making arrangements to commit a sexual offence against a child; he was released on conditions.

His case opened in November; he asked for more time to find a lawyer, and it was adjourned.

He was expected for election-and-plea hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Monday; instead, he said he was applying for Legal Aid, and his hearing was adjourned until Feb. 27.
