Suspect arrested following Inverness Co. firearms thefts scheduled to return to court

A man charged in relation to the thefts of several firearms in Inverness Co. is expected back in court Friday.

RCMP say someone broke into a home on General Line Rd. in the Creignish area and took seven different guns, a crossbow, various types of ammunition and a generator in August.

Joel Francis Hugh MacDonnell, 33, of Port Hawkesbury faces charges of break-and-enter, possession of stolen property and trafficking stolen property.

MacDonnell, who made his first appearance in the case in September, is expected for a preliminary inquiry on the break-and-enter charge, and an election-and-plea hearing on the other two charges in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court; the hearings were adjourned March 1.

He has also pleaded not guilty to two drug charges and two breaches in relation to a January traffic stop; his trial in that case is scheduled for July.
