Aggravated assault charge dismissed for Antigonish Co. man

A 20-year-old Antigonish Co. man has had an aggravated assault charge dismissed, after the Crown offered no evidence.

Issiah Thomas Julian of Paq'tnkek was due to stand trial in Antigonish Provincial Court on Friday morning, but the Crown indicated there was no realistic prospect of conviction.

Police say that in January on the Paq'ntkek First Nation, one man swung a broken table leg at another and cut his hands in the process.

They say the second man then stabbed the first man several times with a knife.

Another Paq'ntkek man, 33-year-old Terry Matthew Julian, was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon following the altercation; he is still scheduled to go on trial in October.
