Local sports preview (Thursday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders will try to get back in the win column Thursday evening at the 2017 Telus Cup in Prince George, B.C.

The Islanders won their first two games of the National Midget Hockey Championship, then lost 4-3 to the host Cariboo Cougars on Wednesday night.

They face the Ontario entry, the Mississauga Rebels, at 8 p.m. Atlantic time.

The West Islanders, Rebels and Leduc Oil Kings (Pacific representative) are all tied for top spot in the six-team tournament with 2-1 records and four points.

The top four teams from the round-robin portion of the tournament advance to the playoff round on Saturday.

The Islanders can clinch a spot with a win Thursday night.
