Provincial officials announce plans for new Richmond Co. community home, infrastructure support

Officials with the provincial government have announced funding for a new community home for Acadians and Francophones with disabilities in Richmond Co.

The home will be in the former Hearts of Isle Madame convent in Arichat; the building is owned by the Hearts of Isle Madame Disability Society.

Provincial officials say they'll spend $600,000 annually to renovate and operate the home.

The money will go toward construction of a new four-bed community home next to the former convent and three respite beds in the convent itself to allow people with disabilities to stay temporarily.

The convent will also be renovated for potential day activities for people in the community.

 

Zach Churchill, the Minister of Municipal Affairs, announced insfrastructure support for several municipalities on Fridayincluding for the Town of Antigonish and the Municipality of the District of Guysborough.

The Town of Antigonish will receive  $143,392 toward water main upgrades, while $55,357 of provincial funds have been pledged toward sewer upgrades in Hazel Hill.
