Drugs charges in Halifax following importation of heroin

RCMP say they have arrested two individuals for importing heroin to Halifax.

They say last week officers with the Canada Border Services Agency in Montreal intercepted a package with what they believed to be heroin.

RCMP say last week, the packaged arrived at a Halifax address, and a second package arrived on Monday.

They say an estimated 6.5 kilograms of heroin was seized between the two packages.

Police say on Tuesday, a female and male picked up what was believed to be the two packages from the Halifax address and were arrested shortly after.

RCMP say the couple from Toronto (
Mithusha Poobalasingam and Geevan Nagendran) are each facing charges of Possession for the purpose of trafficking and Importation of a controlled substance of Heroin, Carfentanil and Methylfentanyl.

Police say the two are also charged with false representation of a Canadian aviation document.
