Inverness Co. drug bust suspect has case adjourned

A man from Port Hawkesbury charged in connection with a drug bust is scheduled to return to court in the fall.

RCMP say Joel Francis Hugh MacDonnell, 34, faces two drug charges and a pair of breaches after officers pulled over a driver for a cell phone infraction in January.

MacDonnell, who entered not guilty pleas in March, was expected to stand trial in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Monday; instead, it was adjourned until Oct. 16.

MacDonnell was sentenced to 18 months of house arrest on two counts of possession of stolen property, a theft count and a firearms offence in relation to an Inverness Co. firearms theft in March.

Police say someone broke into a General Line Rd. home in the Creignish area, and stole seven different guns, a crossbow, several types of ammunition and a generator in August.
