Long-time StFX coach retiring, to be replaced by Olympian

The head coach of the StFX cross country and track-and-field teams is on his way out, and an Olympian is on his way in.

Bernie Chisholm has announced he'll retire following the upcoming seasons; he spent 31 years guiding the X-Men and X-Women.

Chisholm has led StFX to 17 AUS cross country titles, with the X-Men winning the last six conference championships.

Eric Gillis, a three-time Olympian, will join Chisholm as an assistant coach for his final year; StFX officials say the plan is for Gillis, a native of Antigonish and a graduate of StFX, to assume both the cross country and track-and-field head coaching roles after Chisholm retires.

Gillis is coming off a 10th-place finish in the marathon in the 2016 Summer Olympics, the best Canadian finish in the event since 1976.
