Pair arrested in Inverness Co. drug bust expected in court

A man and a woman facing drug charges following a traffic stop in Inverness Co. are scheduled to return to court Monday.

RCMP say members of the Inverness District Street Crime Enforcement Unit laid the charges after they stopped a car on Rte. 19 in Port Hastings in June.

They say officers seized roughly 50 grams of cocaine, and charged two people with trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Gabriel Chiasson, 40, of Antigonish and Carol Taylor, 40, of Port Hastings are expected for election-and-plea hearings in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court after their cases opened shortly after their arrests.

Chiasson has a lengthy criminal record that includes time in prison for previous drug offences, and a fine for failing to report the 2006 death of a young woman at an Inverness Co. cottage.
