Former RCMP officer charged in standoff scheduled to return to court

A man from Port Hawkesbury taken into custody following a standoff in the town is expected back in court Monday.

Byron Arthur "Brad" Parks has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Police charged Parks, a former RCMP officer, after they blocked traffic and evacuated a number of residents in the Tamarac subdivision in March.

They say a man was taken into custody without incident an hour-and-a-half after the operation started, and was released on conditions.

Parks, who made his first appearance in the case in May, is expected to return to Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court after his case was adjourned in June.
