Three local players make Cape Breton Screaming Eagles' roster

Three players with local connections have cracked the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles' opening roster for the 2017-18 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.

Saint Andrews' Declan Smith returns for his third full season.

Beaver Meadow's Ryan MacLellan joins the Screaming Eagles on a full-time basis; the blueliner played five games with them while he was with the Telus Cup-champion, Cape Breton West Islanders last season.

Drake Batherson is back for his third season with Cape Breton; the forward came up through the Antigonish Minor Hockey Association; his father, Norm was an assistant coach with the St FX Men's Hockey team.

He was drafted by Ottawa in the fourth round of this year's NHL Entry Draft.
