Students and staff hope for school expansion in Antigonish Co.

Members of the community are hoping speaking up will help get a school expansion in Antigonish Co.

Tanya DeWolfe, Vice President, Foyer Ecole/Home and School Committee in Pomquet says L'Ecole acadienne de Pomquet has 250 students; they currently have over 300.

She says they hope to receive funding from provincial government officials.

DeWolfe tells The Hawk they presented, and gave a tour to Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) to show them the issues.

"We were able to give them a tour," she says. "Kind of show them classrooms that our now full-time classrooms, that used to be resource rooms, economic classrooms (and) computer labs."

DeWolfe says they've had three portable classrooms for at least the last three years.

She says they hope to be top on the school board's priority list.

DeWolfe says a growing school is a good problem to have, but it's difficult when you don't have space for students.
