Local sports preview (Saturday)

The Cape Breton West Islanders are in Bridgewater for a pair of games in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

The Islanders visit the South Shore Mustangs.

Cape Breton West (3-1-0) has won three of the first four games to start the season, while the Mustangs (0-2-2) are winless.

The Islanders and Mustangs played a pair of games in Port Hood Sept. 23-24; the Islanders won both, one in a shootout.

Puck drop is 7 p.m.

The teams meet again in Bridgewater Sunday afternoon.

The Novas (2-2-0) are on the road for two games against the Western Hurricanes (3-1-0) in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

Game time is 5 p.m.

The teams face off again in Liverpool Sunday morning.

Antigonish's Blade Mann-Dixon and the Halifax Mooseheads take on the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for the second straight time in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The teams met in Bathurst Wednesday night- the Titan won 5-3, handing the Mooseheads their first loss of the season.

Acadie-Bathurst is coming off a loss against the Screaming Eagles in Sydney Friday night.

It's Halifax's 2017-18 home opener after three straight road games to start the season.

Puck drop at Scotiabank Centre is 7 p.m.

The Dr. J.H. Gillis cross country teams are south of the border.

The Royals are in Belfast, Maine for the 16th annual Maine Festival of Champions.

It's New England's largest cross country meet- 2,100 athletes from 80 schools are taking part.
