Richmond Co. man charged in Operation Halfpenny committed to stand trial

A pair of suspects from Richmond Co. arrested following an alleged conspiracy to import cocaine are scheduled to return to court in November.

Andrew Francis Frank, 59, of West Arichat has been charged with seven drug-related counts, including two counts each of trafficking cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking; Wayne Bennie Mury, 43 of Arichat faces cocaine trafficking and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking charges.

Mury was committed to stand trial following a preliminary hearing in Port Hawkesbury Provincial Court Thursday; he's expected to have a date set for his trial Nov. 3.

Frank is scheduled to return to court for an election-and-plea hearing Nov. 8.

Police say they made six arrests in connection with Operation Halfpenny in February.

They say officers discovered a plot to import more than a tonne of Colombian cocaine a year-and-a-half earlier.
