Local sports preview (Sunday)

The StFX women's rugby team is playing for a bronze medal at the 2017 U Sports Rugby Championship in Lethbridge, Alberta.

The X-Women, the tournament's top seed and the 2016 national champs, lost Saturday night's semi-final against Laval, which moved them to the bronze-medal game against the third-seeded Calgary Dinos.

Kick off is 4 p.m.


The Cape Breton West Islanders visit Halifax in the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League.

It's the second road game in as many days for the Islanders, who won in Cole Harbour Saturday night.

The teams met in Halifax Oct. 28; Cape Breton West won 6-5 in a shootout.

Game time is 12:30 p.m.


The Northern Selects are in Saint John for the second of back-to-back games against the Fundy Nationals in the Nova Scotia Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

The Selects won Saturday's game between the teams.

Sunday's game gets underway at 10:30 a.m.


The Novas play their second game in as many days in the Nova Scotia Major Bantam Hockey League.

They travel to Truro to take on the Bearcats.

The Novas won against the Cougars in Antigonish Saturday night.

It's the second regular season game between the teams; the Bearcats beat the Novas 5-2 in Truro in September.

Game time is 1 p.m.


The StFX women's hockey team is on home ice for AUS action.

The X-Women host the UPEI Panthers in the second regular season game between the teams; StFX won the first 6-2 in Charlottetown in October.

Puck drop at the Keating Centre in Antigonish is 3 p.m.
