NSHA officials say ER closures may continue at local hospital

A Nova Scotia Health Authority spokesperson says more emergency department closures are possible at a hospital in the Quad Counties.

The ER at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston has been closed seven times since the start of September.

Greg Boone says the departure of a physician from the area has led to a scramble to fill uncovered shifts.

Boone tells The Hawk the ER closures will likely continue.

"There is no confirmed physician coverage for at least one shift during the week- that's mainly on Wednesdays," he says. "Right now, without a confirmed physician for that particular shift, we may be looking at closures for Wednesdays for the remainder of this month."

Boone says closures could also extend beyond this month.

He says physician recruitment is a challenge, but is ongoing in Richmond Co.
