Mayor says town officials are on track for Destination Reeves St.

The mayor of the Town of Port Hawkesbury says some funding is in place for Destination Reeves St.

Brenda Chisholm-Beaton says they hope to have design work in place at the end of the 2017-18 fiscal year, which is March 31.

She says speed is a huge issue in the area.

After November's regular town council meeting Monday night, Chisholm-Beaton said they've had wonderful support from community, business and industry leaders.

"I think they see the merit into building a Reeves St. that is going to retain and attract new business, but also be safe," she says. "Reeves St. right now is an overbuilt four-lane highway going through the center of our town."

Chisholm-Beaton said there are residences on one side, and a school and civic centre on the other, which forces a lot of kids to walk across the highway.

She said it would be nice for funding to be entirely in place already, but they're on track for the project.
